Day 8, 30 Days of Gratitude

~ Day 8 ~

30 days of Gratitude πŸ™πŸ»

🌹

Today I am grateful for photography/photos. Photos capture moments in time, they can be raw, gut wrenching, and before the advent of photoshop, photos showed the truth of the moment unaltered. As a child the photo by Nick Ut of a child whom had just been sprayed with napalm hit me intensely. It showed the truth of war that few had seen before. Photos have power, now they have the power to deceive and that saddens me. For me, the only changes I make to my photos is to fix light levels if needed and sometimes crop. I have a love hate with cropping as some of my favorite things about photos is they capture the trends of the time. Look past the subject to the background this shows the time period. Photos also have the power to solace a grieving heart. The first thing we often do when someone passes is to look at photos of their life. Obviously, I am passionate about photography, growing up I wanted to be a National Geographic photographer. I have had a camera in my hand since I was a preteen (over 50 years now), before my life took an abrupt turn, I was starting to make a name for myself in concert photography; now I still have a camera in my hand, as my phone will attest – I have over 11,000 photos I took with it as of today.

What are you grateful for today?
